Qualitative Trends for Situation Assessment in SBR Wastewater Treatment Process

A Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) is a wastewater process that occurs in a unique basin working with a predefined cycle. The reactor is monitored by the pH, Oxidation Reduction Potential, Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature sensors. This work proposes a qualitative representation of process variables based on episodes for ORP and pH signals to determine the complete denitrification and nitrification reactions endpoints in order to adapt the cycle length to the influent composition. Moreover the qualitative representation can be used to detect significant variations in the influent composition and process deviations due to failures in the plant equipment.
